Catalyst for a new self (2024), installation
Catalyst for a new self explores the movements and proliferation of one element superimposed on another. How can this alter the way we think and approach our own thoughts? Deeply connected to desire and intimacy, the layered materials invoke a new perspective on identity and perception.
This work questions evolution and self-enlightenment through the omission, if not the complete obstruction, of clear distinctions and reality. It challenges us to reconsider the boundaries between self and other, and the fluid nature of transformation.
Artist biography
Dounia is a Swiss-based artist, currently studying at HEAD-Genève. Her work addresses the body and its collapses, exploring the limits and boundaries of its functions. She identifies internal movements to give them a physical presence, making the invisible visible through an internal mirror. She questions the importance of self-love and desires, invoking the experimental space between figuration and abstraction, between reality and perception.
